Thanjavur: Four pilgrims on a padyatra (foot pilgrimage) died after being run over by a speeding van on the Thanjavur-Tiruchi national highway on Wednesday morning. Giving this information, the police said that one of the deceased was a woman.
According to the police, these people, residents of Pudukottai district, were going to Samayapuram Mariamman temple by road but this accident happened on the way. In the morning, a van going to Tiruchi crushed them near Valambakudi village, 30 km from Thanjavur. Two people injured in the accident have been admitted to Thanjavur Government Medical College.
Police said that a case has been registered and investigation is underway.
