Tesla ‘silent’, hasn’t told about its India plans yet

The Uncut

New Delhi. American electric car manufacturer Tesla is ‘silent’ and has not yet told the government about its India plans under the new EV policy. An official gave this information on Friday. American billionaire businessman Elon Musk was to visit India on 21-22 April. However, he postponed his trip at the last minute citing ‘heavy Tesla obligations’. Musk, CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla, was scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the visit.

Asked whether the company has told the government about its plans, the official said, “They (Tesla) are just silent… The (EV) policy was always for everyone.” The official said that commercial decisions are announced by the companies. There was no response to questions sent to Tesla through e-mail in this regard.

Earlier in April, he had confirmed his visit to India on social media platform X, writing, “Looking forward to meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India.” In June last year, Musk had met Modi during his visit to the US and said he planned to visit India in 2024. He also expressed confidence that Tesla will soon enter the Indian market.
