Jailed fundamentalist preacher Amritpal Singh gets election symbol ‘Mike’

Chandigarh. Radical preacher Amritpal Singh, who is contesting as an independent candidate from Khadur Sahib seat of Punjab, has been allotted ‘Mike’ election symbol. Amritpal, the head of ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization, is lodged in Dibrugarh jail of Assam under the National Security Act. Amritpal is among the 169 independent candidates who have been allotted election symbols out of the total 328 candidates contesting in the state.

Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, contesting as an independent candidate from Faridkot (Reserved) constituency, has been allotted ‘Sugarcane Farmer’ election symbol. Sarabjit is the son of Beant Singh, one of the assassins of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her bodyguards Beant Singh and Satwant Singh at her official residence on 31 October 1984.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C. on Sunday said that 328 candidates contesting for Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats have been allotted election symbols by the district election authorities as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India .

The election symbols allotted to independent candidates include harmonium, dumbbell, apple, tongs, hockey and ball, stool, ship, gas cylinder, battery torch, cupboard, computer, batsman, bat, truck, cot, cauliflower, petrol pump, television, laptop, Includes auto rickshaw, pressure cooker, plastering trowel, flute, diamond, road roller, letterbox, chimney and sewing machine.
