face: Three labourers were killed and seven injured when a truck carrying vegetables overturned in Gujarat’s Surat district in the wee hours of Friday, police said. The accident occurred near Kikwad village in Bardoli on National Highway 53, an official said.
Bardoli police inspector D.R. Vasava said the truck was carrying vegetables from Satana town in Nashik district of neighbouring Maharashtra to Surat city. “Truck driver Suresh Pawar was driving the truck at a high speed as he wanted to reach Surat before dawn so that he could get a good price for the vegetables. Due to this, the truck went off the road and overturned near Kikwad,” he said.
Of the ten labourers travelling in the truck, three died on the spot and seven were injured. The deceased, Pitu Pawar (40), Bhavasa Mali (40) and Sonu Patil (35), were residents of Satana taluka in Nashik district, he said.
The officer said that a case of negligent driving has been registered against the driver. The driver suffered minor injuries. He will be arrested after being discharged from the hospital.
