Maldives tourism body invites T20 World Cup-winning Indian team

The Tourism Association of Maldives and its Marketing and Public Relations Corporation have invited the recently crowned T20 World Champion Indian cricket team to their country to celebrate the victory. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team won the trophy by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final on June 29 in Barbados.

The two bodies said in a joint statement, “The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) in collaboration with the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has extended a special and open invitation to the Indian national cricket team.” MMPRC Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuri and MATI General Secretary Ahmed Nazir said in a joint statement that they are looking forward to hosting the team. The Indian team returned to India on Thursday after becoming world champions. Millions of fans attended the team’s victory parade in Mumbai.

The statement said, “We will be proud to host you and ensure memorable moments, relaxation and great experiences during your stay.” He said that this invitation reflects the strong and long-standing cultural and sports ties between Maldives and India.

Shiuri said, “It will be a great honor for Maldives to welcome the Indian cricket team and be a part of their victory celebrations.” He said, “We are eagerly waiting to host them, so that they can get the right atmosphere to cherish the memories of this victory celebration.” The main players of the Indian team are currently on a break. After the Zimbabwe tour, India’s next international match is a six-match limited overs series against Sri Lanka from July 27. This series includes three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals.
