Ons Jabeur withdraws from US Open with shoulder injury

The Uncut

New York: Ons Jabeur, the 2022 US Open runner-up, withdrew from this year’s tournament due to a shoulder injury. Jabeur was scheduled to be seeded 17th in the tournament that begins on Monday. The US Tennis Association said that after Jabeur’s withdrawal, the next highest player eligible to be seeded, Elise Mertens, will be seeded 33rd.

Jabeur has been struggling with injuries recently. She withdrew from the hard-court tournament in Washington after losing to Naomi Osaka in her only match in Montreal. Jabeur wrote on Instagram on Thursday that her shoulder has not yet healed and that is why she will not be able to play in the US Open. The Tunisian player also reached the Wimbledon finals in 2022 and 2023.
