Sukma. Police in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Tuesday arrested a 45-year-old woman and 12 others for allegedly beating to death five members of a family, police officials said on Tuesday.
Police officials said that on September 15, a mob in Etkal village under Konta police station area of the district beat to death Mausam Kanna (60), his wife Mausam Beeri, son Mausam Buchcha (34), daughter-in-law Mausam Arjo (32) and daughter Karka Lacchi (43) on suspicion of practicing witchcraft. They said that after the incident, the police arrested five people. Officials said that on Tuesday, the police arrested a woman Podiyam Kanni of Etkal village and 11 men under sections of the Indian Penal Code and Chhattisgarh Tonhi Pratha Nivaran Adhiniyam 2005.
According to officials, based on eyewitness statements and investigation, the police have arrested the accused and so far 17 people have been arrested in this case. He said that the police have recovered sticks and other weapons used in the crime. Officials said that the police presented all the accused in the court from where they were sent to jail. He said that the police is investigating the case.
