Teenager involved in car accident gets bail after writing essay, police wants action like an adult

Pune. A day after the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to a 17-year-old involved in a car accident on the basis of writing a ‘300 word’ essay, police on Monday said they will approach the sessions court and seek trial of the accused as an adult. Will request. Two people were killed in the accident involving the teenager.

A senior police officer said that an FIR has also been registered against the teenager’s father and a real estate businessman.
Police said that the 17-year-old teenager was allegedly driving a Porsche car and at around 3.15 am on Sunday, he hit two people riding a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar, killing them. Police claim that the teenager was drunk at the time of the incident.

The teenager was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board from where he got bail after a few hours. The board directed him to go to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and read the traffic rules and give a presentation before it within 15 days. The order said, “CCL (child in violation of law) will write an essay of 300 words on the topic of road accidents and its solutions.” The board also directed to send the teenager to a prohibition center for counselling. However, the decision to grant immediate bail in the case of the death of two people is also being criticized.

According to the police, an FIR has been registered against the teenager under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. It said a group of friends were returning on motorcycles around 3.15 am on Sunday when a speeding Porsche car hit a motorcycle at the Kalyani Nagar intersection. Police said that Anees Awadiya and Ashwini Costa, who were riding the motorcycle and were 24 years old, hailing from Madhya Pradesh and IT professionals, were killed.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “On Sunday itself, we applied before the court (board) seeking permission to prosecute the juvenile as an adult and requested to send him to a reform home as the crime was heinous, but our application was rejected.” Has been done. We will now present our petition before the sessions court.” He said that the test report of the teenager’s blood samples has not been received yet but according to preliminary investigation, he was drunk at the time of the incident.

Police Commissioner Kumar said, “In the picture obtained from the CCTV installed in the bar, it is clearly visible that the teenager is drinking alcohol. There is no doubt that the teenager was driving the car after drinking alcohol. We will present these facts in the court.” He said, “We have registered an FIR against his father under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. We have also registered a case against the bar owner for serving liquor to a person below the prescribed age. We have transferred the case to the crime branch.” Kumar said, “The case has been handed over to an ACP level officer and our effort is to make the case concrete. We will appoint a special advocate in this case.”
