Kolkata. The meeting between West Bengal government officials and agitating doctors at the state secretariat ‘Nabanna’ on Wednesday evening ended after two and a half hours of talks to resolve the deadlock over the RG Kar Hospital issue in Kolkata. Officials gave this information. Although the meeting ended, the agitating doctors have not yet come out of the state secretariat Nabanna, the venue of the talks.
The details of the meeting are awaited. This was the second round of talks between the protesting doctors and the state government within 48 hours. The first round of talks was held on Monday in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. A delegation of about 30 doctors reached the secretariat for a meeting with Chief Secretary Manoj Pant at around 7:15 pm on Wednesday. The meeting with Chief Secretary Manoj Pant began at around 7:30 pm. Stenographers also accompanied the agitating doctors to record the proceedings of the meeting.
Before leaving for the meeting venue, an agitating doctor said, “We want the issue of security in hospitals to be addressed. The Chief Minister had announced the formation of a task force, but there is no clarity on it. We want the state government to accept our legitimate demands.” The Bengal government has invited junior doctors protesting against the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at the government R.G. Kar Hospital for another round of talks at 6.30 pm on Wednesday.
