Will challenge Calcutta High Court order on OBC certificates in apex court: Mamata

The Uncut

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said her government will challenge in the apex court the Calcutta High Court order cancelling all Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates issued in the state since 2010.

Mamata Banerjee said this while addressing an election rally in Sagar in South 24 Parganas district.
He said the state government would appeal against the order in the apex court after the summer vacations.
He said, “We do not accept the order to cancel OBC certificates. We will appeal to the apex court after the summer vacation.”

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday cancelled the Other Backward Class (OBC) status given to several classes in West Bengal since 2010. The court had said that inclusion of 77 classes of Muslims in the list of backward class category is “treating them like a vote bank.”

Banerjee, in her address at an election rally, urged voters not to give a single vote to the BJP or any other party except the Trinamool Congress so that the opposition alliance ‘India’ can form the government at the Centre.
