Chhattisgarh: Police protection provided to ED lawyer

The Uncut

Raipur. The Chhattisgarh government has approved providing armed police protection to Enforcement Directorate (ED) lawyer and state Deputy Advocate General Saurabh Kumar Pandey, official sources said on Sunday. Pandey has been provided with personal security officers after a threat report prepared by the state intelligence department recommended protection to him by the Chhattisgarh Police’s ‘VIP’ security unit.

Pandey has been representing the Raipur zonal office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in various courts, including the arrest of various notorious accused and filing of chargesheets against them, besides other cases related to the money laundering and foreign exchange violations probe being conducted by the federal agency in Chhattisgarh.

He played a key role in obtaining a non-bailable warrant after filing of the chargesheet from the special Money Laundering (Prevention) Act (PMLA) court which helped the ED notify an ‘Interpol Red Notice’ against the prime accused in the ‘Mahadev online betting app’ case. The state government has recently named Pandey as Chhattisgarh’s deputy advocate general.
