New York: Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori defeated Taylor Townsend and Donald Young 7-6 (0), 7-5 on Thursday to win the mixed doubles title at the US Open tennis tournament. This was the first mixed doubles title of Errani’s career, who won the career Grand Slam in women’s doubles with her Italian partner Roberta Vichi.
She won the gold medal in women’s doubles at the Paris Olympic Games last month with Jasmine Paolini. She said, “This year has been unbelievable for me. This year has been fantastic.” Childhood friends Townsend and Young were given wild card entry in the US Open this year. Young had already announced that he would retire from tennis after this tournament.
