I have become everyone’s favourite target: Kangana Ranaut

The Uncut

New Delhi. With the release of her controversial film “Emergency” postponed in the wake of a Madhya Pradesh High Court order, actress Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday said she has become “everyone’s favourite target” and is paying the price for waking up a “sleeping nation”.

The film, directed, written and co-produced by Ranaut, also did not get any relief from the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court said that it cannot give any immediate relief at this stage in view of the direction issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court, in which the censor board has been directed to consider the objections before certifying the film. Ranaut plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in ‘Emergency’. The film was scheduled to release on September 6 after several postponements, but it has not yet received approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh and the actress reacted to the High Court order in a post.

She said, “Today I have become everyone’s favorite target, this is the price of waking up this sleeping country. They don’t know what I am talking about, they have no idea why I am so concerned, because they want peace, they don’t want to take anyone’s side.” The actress wrote in a separate post on the social media platform ‘X’, “The High Court has reprimanded the censor for illegally withholding the certificate of ‘Emergency’.” ‘Emergency’ has been embroiled in controversy after Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, raised objections, accusing it of misrepresenting the community and misrepresenting historical facts. The film’s production company Zee Entertainment Enterprises had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court requesting the CBFC to direct it to issue a certificate for the film.
