New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Sunday announced a prize money of Rs 125 crore for the team, lauding India’s historic title win in the T20 World Cup. India won their second T20 World title by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Shah said in a statement, “Under the extraordinary leadership of Rohit Sharma, this team has shown great determination and resilience, becoming the first team in the history of ICC T20 World Cup to win the tournament without losing a single match.” He said that the team silenced its critics with an extraordinary performance.

Describing India’s title campaign as inspirational, Shah said, “The players faced the critics and silenced them with brilliant performances time and again. The journey of the players has been inspiring and today they have joined the ranks of great players.” Shah later announced a cash prize of Rs 125 crore for the team on social media.

Shah wrote on ‘X’, “I am happy to announce a prize money of Rs 125 crore for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.” He also praised the hard work of the team and said, “This team has made everyone proud with its dedication, hard work and indomitable spirit. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and with the help of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and other players, they have fulfilled the dreams and hopes of 1.4 billion Indians.”
